Hibiscus a South Asian’s diary of navigating neurodiversity the lived moments.
The world of hibiscus is connected to myself the unfiltered moments and thoughts that have created her to be able to shared where is now, hibiscus is not just about me but about the sense that comes across for others I have met who have or know others who are late diagnosed neurodivergent and are now just trying to unpick this and rebuild a better understanding of themselves.
Hibiscus a South Asian women from immigrant family background uses this space as a way to explore the challenges of being late diagnosis whilst being a parent and person of colour and a professional.
The challenges, cultural narrative and shame which follows through the journey for her is unfiltered and at the same time unleashing some of her own pain in words below
"being South Asian and finally understanding why i was called Vichitravir (weird one ) from my own community and peers and family members brings a element of sadness but also solace for me now" as she mentioned above.
Navigating what she calls foot and mouth when she is unfiltered and is unaware and is considered as Crude for being herself and how years of masking led to her speaking in a third person.
This journey for hibiscus to explore in a written format is a form of healing she was once told that she should write a book on thee series of events that have taken place in her life - she was 21 when this was suggested to her, and now as she starts this journey later end of 30s sh is aware that this is a place for her to be and for her to find her own style of writing and exploring the realms of being a women, South Asian and a professional to walk the journey as a advocate and to create a neuro-affirming arena for her and others.
Showing up and saying that it is okay to walk through in how she seems to believe fit.
Exploring her thoughts and researching and just jumping into rabbit holes to find a connection or to lose a connection and find a another rabbit hole, and to also be able to say yes it is exhausting is it not being neurodivergent and wanting to be less isolated in both her western and easter connections.
Hibiscus moves from one place to another to finds a fix a fix that can keep her mind at ease being unable to managed the intense combination of having inattentive and hyper ADHD has been there all her life
The words cant sit still or scatty brains reminds here of the book cover from Gabor Mate scattered minds which is how she feels she is constantly. There ever heartache of not being able to manage her own expectation and of others.
Why cant she cook and watch her child and be able to reply to messages, why can she only do one at any one time, and how can she have completed a postgrad if she is unable to be attentive theses questions which has been raised in her relationships and her upbringing are like an ongoing echo from a perique constantly chirping at her.
